Swallow Studios is the name given to Liz Christy’s hand-weaving workshop in Annayalla, Co Monaghan. When Liz and her husband Pat bought their cottage in 1991, swallows had taken up residence in the out houses, hence they called it Swallow Cottage. So when the workshop was built beside the house in 2004, it inherited the name and Swallow Studios came into being. It is a colourful gem surrounded by rolling hills and hidden lakes. In years since, it has become a popular attraction for visitors to the area. In the traditions of Ireland’s Ancient East, Liz is always delighted to welcome tourists. They can see hand-dyeing and hand-weaving in progress, and Liz is known to entertain her visitors with a story or two. Friendliness and authenticity features alongside colour as the long lasting memories from a visit to Swallow Studios.
The world loves sheep and in 2009 the LizzyC Sheep Gift Collection was launched by Liz. Designed and crafted by hand in Ireland, LizzyC Sheep are a quirky flock of colourful sheep gifts, guaranteed to make you smile. Each sheep is hand-woven with specially spun wool in colours dreamed up by Liz at her dye pots. They are real little characters and have travelled far and wide, to homes across the world. A cottage industry in the finest tradition, has grown up around the weaving of LizzyC Sheep.
Brooch pins, key chains, fridge magnets, hanging ornaments and the latest addition to the flock, The Ramblin’ Sheep, are available to buy the studios shop as well as in the best craft shops throughout the country and beyond. And of course you can buy them online here too.
