Cashwool Wrap – Hope, inspired by the Hope Diamond

This soft luxury cashwool wrap is inspired by the Hope Diamond and its association with my hometown of Castleblayney.  Designed using finely spun merino wool in shades of blue, the fine silver threads represent the sparkle in the diamond.

Hope Castle has a long and colourful history, and much of the story begins in 1853, when Cadwallader, the 12th and final Lord Blayney, sold the Blayney estate to Henry Thomas Hope. Hope belonged to the renowned Scottish-Dutch banking family whose name continues to echo around the world — most famously through the Hope Diamond. Today, that extraordinary gem is a centrepiece of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., part of its permanent collection since 1958, when jeweller Harry Winston posted it, quite simply, in a brown paper parcel. From such an unassuming delivery grew one of the world’s most admired and studied treasures.  The Hope Diamond is a significant draw, housed behind protective glass, showcasing its deep blue colour and captivating history.
