Known as Crioseanna in the plural, these belts are deeply rooted in the heritage of the Aran Islands off Ireland’s west coast.Traditionally crafted from six colourful strands of wool and often finished with a crisp white border, the Crios was once an essential part of a man’s attire—wrapped proudly around tweed trousers, it was both a practical garment and a symbol of Celtic identity.
The Summer Garden palette brings fresh life to this classic form, with joyful shades of orange, yellow, and pink that evoke blooming meadows and sunlit days. This piece weaves together centuries of craftsmanship and culture in every thread, whether worn or displayed.
Liz weaves the ‘CHRISTY CRIOS’ on a loom she inherited from a property clear out in County Sligo. The shed’s owner wanted the two-shaft floor loom to go to a good home. So, Liz happily obliged and used the loom to perfect the design and weaving of ‘the crios’.
