Christy Crios – Irish Handwoven Belt – Ponderosa Crios

This Irish Belt, the Ponderosa Crios, was inspired by Liz’s sister’s first home with her new husband in 1973.  Their flat was above ‘The Ponderosa’, a public house in Castleblayney.  No doubt the establishment was named after the famous TV show of the same name. But for Liz, the word ‘Ponderosa’ evokes the popular decor colours of the decade, orange and brown. And the decor in Rosie’s flat was just that, orange and brown in abundance.

Handwoven from Donegal tweed wool, it’s a true celebration of creativity, community, and the enduring beauty of traditional Irish craft.

The men of the Aran Islands once wore crios (pronounced “Kris”, plural Crioseanna) belts, tied at the waist as both a practical garment and a cultural symbol. Today, they’re still woven with purpose—but also with personality.

The Ponderosa Crios is for anyone who embraces bold colour, fierce joy, and the shared love of fibre that connects us across the world.
